Marc Platt, the man who brought Wicked to Broadway, is one of the unnamed producers who are working on an as-yet untitled musical-comedy project that will star Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Looper) and Channing Tatum (Magic Mike).
Universal outbid other studios to pick up the project, which will also have Drive‘s Adam Siegel on board as producer as well as Tatum and his partners Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan. Gordon-Levitt and his company hitRECord films will also be producing.
The idea was all Gordon-Levitt’s, who then pitched the idea to Michael Bacall (22 Jump Street). There aren’t any official plot details yet but word on the street is that the project will be an R-rated musical that focuses on two pilots on a misadventure. The two stars aren’t afraid to bust a move: Tatum starred as a stripper in Magic Mike and its sequel, while Gordon-Levitt delivered one hell of a dance scene in the romantic comedy (500 Days of Summer). Here’s to hoping they can deliver a hilarious experience that premise certainly promises.
