Since the Oscar-winning, 2009, Juan Jose Campanella directed, Argentinian thriller The Secret In Their Eyes was such a resounding success (you can find the original’s trailer below), it was bound to get an English remake at some point; a remake which which has just added Julia Roberts to the cast list.
Writer/director Billy Ray (Breach director, and Hunger Games writer) has even gone as far as to rework the screenplay to accommodate Pretty Woman Roberts; further altering the film which originally had two male leads and one female, but already looks to be a fairly different beast, given the need to shift focus to something more US-related (and internationally sale-able) and still parallel the tension and relevance created as the original locked onto Argentina’s military junta, and overtly attacking high-level corruption.
Gwyneth Paltrow (The Avengers), and Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave) have already joined the cast, and while it’s unclear exactly what roles Paltrow and Roberts will be fulfilling we do know Ejiofor will appear as an MI-5 agent who joins a joint task force with the FBI in Boston and will struggle with the ghost of an unsolved murder when shooting begins imminently, in Boston.
