With news recently breaking that Matrix star Keanu Reeves would soon be heading to TV by starring in the upcoming series Rain (a series he will produce, which sees him starring as a half-Japanese, half-American hitman), it appears as if Keanu is more committed to television than ever; as he’ll also be producing a new series with Roland Emerich.
Disaster movie-expert Emmerich (helmer of 1998’s Godzilla, Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, and 2012) with team-up with Reeves to produce a sci-fi series called New Angeles; a futuristic show in which a young man attempts to escape the banality of his bland life by delving into a virtual reality world, crafting a new identity, and becoming the person he always wanted to be, not realising his actions will have consequences which reverberate into the real world.
Reeves and Emmerich will write the pilot episode, along with Gregg Hurwitz (V); stating that “Gregg is an incredibly imaginative write, and I’m looking forward to bringing his ideas for the show to life”; with an eye for Emmerich to direct the pilot, and then presumably hand directing duties onto newcomers, before stepping back as an executive producer.
