The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension promised us a sequel back in 1984, during its end credits sequence, yet while Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League never materialised, Mallrats director Kevin Smith is looking to revive the ’80s cult classic with a planned TV series.

Starring RoboCop‘s Peter Weller as the titular Buckaroo Banzai; a brilliant adventurer, surgeon, and rock musician (headlining his own band, Buckaroo Banzai and the Hong Kong Cavaliers); the original film stands as a truly divide cult classic which is either loved or loathed by those who’ve seen its craziness first hand, and watched Buck battling dimension-hopping aliens.

Yet, despite the divisive nature of the film, Smith (who’s riding high on a wave of praise from a recent episode of The Flash he directed) has been meeting with MGM about bringing it to the small screen, and seems to have a clear plan for at least two seasons of any planned show: “Basically you just do the entire movie for season one, then season two you finally do the sequel we’ve all dreamed about, Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League.”

So far though, it’s still in the early concept stages, and so Smith will soon be attempting to shop the idea to various networks and streaming services in order to gage potential interest from investors.
