After a somewhat underwhelming Box Office reception (which still left the movie with a $103m take, from a mere $28m budget), fans went mad for the Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass on DVD and Blu-ray, and have apparently ordered up enough copies of the wannabe-superhero movie to warrant a sequel; which Universal are now fully gearing up to produce.
Adapted from the Mark Miller comics of the same name, Kick-Ass 2 has been written by Cry Wolf’s Jeff Wadlow (with the aid of Miller and original director Matthew Vaughn); who’ll also direct the movie, as Vaughn will be a little too busy (directing the X-Men: First Class sequel) to pick up the reigns for this one.
While the deals aren’t finalized yet, and there’s no set release date for the picture, Universal are pushing Kick-Ass 2 ahead, and already have several members of the original cast in talks to return; including Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and apparently Nicolas Cage; for the film which they fully hope to begin shooting this August.
