Based on true events, and real people, Kill the Irishman is a biopic of Danny Greene; a man who attempted to single-handedly shoot his way to the top of the criminal underworld in Cleveland during the late 1970s, and ended up starting what’s now known as “the war that crippled the Mafia.”
Rome’s Ray Stevenson will be appearing as the titular Irishman; who clearly knows how to annoy the mob, and quickly gets a bounty placed on his head (and several bombs thrown his way), after he decides that working as an enforcer for the Jewish loan-shark Shonder (Christopher Walken, Pulp Fiction) doesn’t pay as well as it should.
Also appearing in the Jonathan Hensleigh (Armageddon) directed picture are Val Kilmer (Heat); as a cop who befriends Greene; Vinnie Jones (Snatch), and two men instantly recognized as on-screen gangsters; Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas), and Steve Schrippa (Bobby Baccalieri from The Sopranos).
Eventually becoming known as “the man the mob couldn’t kill” there’s no denying that Dany Greene’s life has been pretty colourful, has the potential to make a fantastic movie, and should definitely be worth checking out once it’s released, on March 11th, 2011 (just in time for St. Patrick’s Day).
