The inevitable sequel to the trashiest gimmick of 2015 has its first casting announcement: Kim Basinger (Batman) will star as Elena Lincoln, Christian Grey’s business partner and former lover in Fifty Shades Darker.
Based on E.L. James’ novel, the movie will see returning stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, but this time James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross) will take over as director. Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford and Max Martini will also be returning. If you cared to waste your hard-earned money on the first instalment, you’ll know that this Elena character was hinted at in preparation for a big reveal in the sequel.
Fifty Shades Darker, which will be shot back-to-back with the third and final instalment Fifty Shades Freed, follows Anastasia as she struggles to face her “anger and envy of the women who came before her,” all the while Christian wrestles with his “inner demons.” Expect a February 10, 2017 release for this erotic tour-de-force.
