The first of a potential six-film franchise for Warner Bros. (providing the first does enough business), Knights Of The Round Table: King Arthur (we’ll generally just be calling it King Arthur for short) has just been delayed until 2017.
Apparently more of a tactical retreat than a delay – we’ve heard of no budget, script, or other issues such as creative differences which would halt the release – King Arthur was originally scheduled for release next July. Though rather than face a potential Box Office battering at the hands of Star Trek Beyond and Ice Age: Collision Course Warner have moved the film to February 2017; aiming to capitalise on Presidents Day weekend in the US, and replicate the performance of films such as Kingsman, and their own Sherlock Holmes films (which also performed well with winter releases).
Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim, Sons of Anarchy) stars as Arthur himself, in the film which has been directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes), co-stars Eric Bana, Jude Law, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, and Djimon Hounsou, and will follow Arthur’s rise to power (the lifting of Excalibur) and the forming of the Round Table when it’s released on February 17th 2017.
