While the movie-going public generally only know her for playing the vampire-obsessed teen Bella in The Twilight Saga (and will be able to see her reprising that very role when Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 is released on Friday), she’s just been spotted in the recently released trailer for Snow White and The Huntsman, and now Kristen Stewart has been offered the leading female role in the long-gestating Akira.
While Akira has see stars, writers, and directors, come and go over its rather long development period, (which is based on the Japanese Manga of the same name) it appears as though things may finally be moving along for Akira, with Kristen Stewart having been offered the part of Kei a young medium who falls for one of the film’s headliners; Kaneda, the leader of a biker gang who’s best friend Tetsuo becomes the subject of a government experiment that unlocks his psychic potential, and threatens to destroy their entire city, and who may be portrayed by Tron: Legacy‘s Garrett Hedlund, provided he closes a deal.
Jaume Collet-Sera (Unknown) is attached to direct the sci-fi movie, which, provided talks go well, could also star Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight) and Helena Bonham Carter (Alice in Wonderland) when filming begins in March, ahead of an as yet unannounced release date.
