Recently we’ve had both Minority Report and Limitless, as well as 12 Monkeys adapted for the small screen, and now it appears as though Warner Bros. TV and Fox are collaborating to craft a Lethal Weapon TV series.
Fox have commissioned a pilot, which will be written and produced by Matt Miller, and borrow elements of the original films whilst also crafting some more TV-friendly elements; placing a single young cop (an ex-Navy SEAL who moves to LA after the death of his wife and child) with an older detective (who needs to avoid stress because of a heart condition), ready for personality clashes and plenty of action.
The leading roles will go to two unknown actors, who will have the difficult job of following the iconic performances of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover (even if their TV personas aren’t exact copies of Riggs and Murtaugh), and possibly further annoying fans who were hoping to see a fifth Lethal Weapon film (especially as Warner Bros. were apparently looking to make it happen not too long ago).
In other film-TV related news; the planned MacGyver movie has now been confirmed as a reboot of the original series; and both Rush Hour and Uncle Buck adaptations will soon be making their way onto US TV screens.
