After David O. Russell (The Fighter) left Sony’s big screen adaptation of the Uncharted video games (due to creative differences over his first draft being both 200 pages long, and introducing a heap of brand new characters) it was unclear who would take on the director’s role; a role which has now been filled by Limitless’ director Neil Burger.
Burger will soon begin writing his own draft of the script; which follows a young treasure hunter named Nathan ‘Nate’ Drake (who’s descended from the famed Sir Francis Drake) as he goes searching for El Dorado (the lost city of gold), at the same time as a ruthless competitor, and discovers secrets uncovered first by the Spanish Conquistadors, and then the Nazis (who apparently held their own search back in the day).
Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter) was at one time planning to appear as Nate Drake, but since his long-time friend David O. Russell is no longer attached it’s unclear whether he would still want to be involved, and since the film is now in the hands of Neil Burger, the doors are wide open for a new leading man to step forward into the Indiana Jones style adventure (meaning Limitless star Bradley Cooper could be a possibility?).
