Since it’s now emerged that Ryan Gosling (Fracture) will not be appearing in Disney’s planned big-screen adaptation of The Lone Ranger, the studio have begun looking for an alternative, and may have found one in The Social Network’s Armie Hammer.
While his casting is still not official as of yet, Hammer is reportedly in early talks to appear in the movie, and should he sign on to play the masked do-gooder he would appear alongside Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean); who has been attached for sometime to star as The Lone Ranger’s Native American sidekick Tonto.
The Lone Ranger has been in development for sometime, although it now appears as though things are beginning to gain pace, as producer Jerry Bruckheimer is attempting to get the film off the ground and create another franchise to rival his already successful Pirates of the Caribbean series, and has even attached Pirates’ veteran Gore Verbinski to direct.
Hammer is already signed on to appear in Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar, and has scored the pivotal role of the Prince in Tarsem Singh’s upcoming Snow White, but as The Lone Ranger isn’t due to be released until 2014, there should still be plenty of time to arrange a suitable shooting schedule.
