Machete 2 Already Written

Despite reading like a cheap B-movie, Machete (which actually only cost $10 million to produce) has already managed to rake in just shy of $40 million at the Box Office, and fared pretty well with the majority of its audiences, who will be pleased to know that not only has a sequel on the cards, but that it’s already been written.

The first movie; which first came into existence as a fake trailer for Grindhouse, and was written, directed, and produced, by Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Till Dawn), and Ethan Maniquis (Sin City); focussed on an illegal immigrant named Machete (Danny Trejo, Predators), who was hired to kill a senator, double crossed, and set out for vengeance, with a massive array of rather large knives, in a B movie style that screamed fun, and was difficult to ignore.

Speaking recently Trejo stated that the team went “all over the world” promoting Machete, and that it was so well received, that not even Robert Rodriguez expected that kind of reception (Trejo was constantly being asked to sign Machete action figures), and that “everyone is waiting for Machete 2.”

It also seems as if Danny himself is anxious to get to work on a sequel, as he’s not only spoken about Machete becoming a trilogy (with the next movie begin titled Machete Kills, and the third and final movie being called Machete Kills Again) but he has said that he’s “asked him [Rodriguez] when he was going to write it”, and got the answer that Machete fans hoped for when Rodriguez replied “it’s written.”

So far Machete Kills hasn’t been given an official start date, or even officially greenlit, but seen as how the first film attracted a cast that which included the likes of Robert De Niro (Little Fockers), Jessica Alba (Dark Angel), Michelle Rodriguez (Avatar), and Steven Seagal (Under Siege), and has already made nearly four times its budget at the Box Office, making a sequel is a no brainer for the studio, who will likely echo the thoughts of Danny Trejo; when he said “hurry up Robert Rodriguez!”
