His career may have taken a bit of a down turn as of late (as despite the widespread critical praise, no-one actually went to see The Beaver), but there’s no denying that Mel Gibson is a bankable, big-name, star, and with his latest release (How I Spent My Summer Vacation) just around the corner, he may have just landed another role; starring in Machete Kills.
Machete Kills is the upcoming sequel to Robert Rodriguez’s fantastic Mexploitation movie Machete (which was immensely, and undeniably, fun), will once again star Danny Trejo as the titular ex-Federale Machete (this time tracking down an arms dealer for the US government), and is due to be directed by Robert Rodriguez; the man who has reached out to try and sign Gibson for the film; and is apparently going to shoot “pretty quickly”, allowing Rodriguez to “direct the whole thing” (though if production drags on past the Sin City 2 start date, Rodriguez will be forced to demote himself to co-director).
