We’ve just seen the latest trailer for Marcus Nispel’s Conan the Barbarian remake hit the web, but now it looks as the director (who started his career in music videos, before graduating to movies such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th) will be looking to deliver a chilling fright; courtesy of the supernatural thriller Backmask.
Based on Nispel’s own idea, and being produced by Steven Schneider (Insidious), Backmask finds a group of party-going teens who decide to play a record backwards, only to have it release an evil spirit that quickly begins to possess a number of the kids involved; bringing with it a terrifying warning.
Backmask doesn’t have a release date scheduled as yet, and could easily descend into the depths of becoming another My Soul to Take style mess, although Nispel seems to believe in the idea (which makes sense seen as though it is his), and will be hoping to sell the rights to the film at Cannes this week, and begin shooting this summer.
