Matthew McConaughey (The Lincoln Lawyer) and Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line) have just entered talks to appear in the upcoming film Mud; which has been written, and is due to be directed by Take Shelter’s Jeff Nichols, and has been referred to as a “heartfelt” and “exciting” tale (by producer Sarah Green).
McConaughey is set to play a fugitive named Mud, who forms an unlikely friendship with a 14-year-old boy named Ellis (due to be played by tree of Life’s Tye Sheridan); who’s keen on helping the outlaw escape both the law and the serious bounty hunters that are on his tail, and plans on also helping him reunite with his soulmate Juniper (Witherspoon).
While no release date, or shooting schedule has been announced thus far, it’s clear that this redemptive style has not only the director, and actors, intrigued, but also the producers ; who have called it not only “a beautiful story with rich characters” , “an incredible script”, and “a visceral story full of compassion, innocence and memorable journeys”, but also a tale that’s “impossible to resist.”
