While Woody Harrelson may have just had a big screen critical hit, playing a corrupt cop, in Rampart, his next role will once again see him playing a detective, but going back to his TV roots (remembering he scored his big break as a regular on TV sitcom Cheers) for the upcoming TV drama True Detective.
Co-starring as one of two detectives (the other to be played by The Lincoln Lawyer’s Matthew McConaughey) who collide with one another as they investigate the case of a serial killer spanning over 17 years (with scenes set in both the present day and 1995), Harrelson and McConaughey will slot the limited-run series into their film schedules and complete True Detective’s eight-episode first season before leaving potential future seasons open to follow the paths of different characters.
Developed and conceived by Nic Pizzolatto (best known for developing the US adaptation of The Killing), True Detective is now being shopped to various US cable networks as a package deal which includes not only the format, length, and stars, but a deal for Jane Eyre director Cary Fukunaga to helm each of the first season’s eight episodes.
