Best known for playing the World War I hero/prohibition gangster Jimmy Darmody in HBO’s fantastic period piece Boardwalk Empire, Michael Pitt’s next project will also see him stepping back into the 1920s; as he’s just signed on to develop a movie adaptation of Jack black’s autobiographical novel You Can’t Win.
Coming from a very different Jack Black to the Kung Fu Panda star, and Tenacious D frontman, You Can’t Win was published back in 1926, chronicles Black’s journey across America and Canda; as he lived among the tramp underworld and jumped aboard freight trains to get around; and deals with subjects such as crime, justice, and addiction.
Robinson Devor (Zoo) will direct the film which not only stars Pitt, but is being produced by him, has been co-written by him, and is due to start shooting later this month (with a fairly tight budget) in Seattle.
