The 54th BFI London Film Festival opened last night, kicking off two weeks, dozens of shorts, and hundreds of films, worth of entertainment, that contains just about every type of feature-length movie, and impressive short you can think of, and began with the premiere of the very British movie (despite the fact it had an American director), Never Let Me Go.

Never Let Me Go (trailer below) stars Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean), Andrew Gardfield (who’s due to be the next Spider-Man), and Carey Mulligan (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), as three young adults who have attended a very strict boarding school (that holds a very dark secret), and become intwined in a thought-provoking love-triangle that brings the ideas of mortality and friendship to the front of every viewers mind.

There are simply too many wonderful films being shown at the festival to list, however highlights include Darren Aronofsky’s (The Wrestler) twisted psychological thriller centered on the experiences of a bellet dancer; Black Swan (which is already receiving massive Oscar buzz, and has it’s trailer below); The American; which features George Clooney (Ocean’s 11) as a lonely assassin who wishes to retire (and has already had a successful theatrical run in the U.S.); and the premiere of Danny Boyle’s (28 Days Later) latest movie; 127 Hours (trailer can be viewed here); which tells the true story of hiker Aaron Ralston, who was trapped in a remote canyon for roughly 127 hours.

The screening, and premiere, of 127 Hours will also mark the closing of the festival; which ends on the 28th of October, but is open to not only press, and those people attached to the films being screened, but all members of the public; with tickets being available for purchase from the screening venues, and via the BFI website.
