Today it was announced that Alex Kurtzman, producer of Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness, will be executively producing a new batch of Star Trek episodes for CBS’ All Access digital subscription. It will be the first original release for the platform, which costs $6 a month in the US.
According to CBS, the new series will “introduce new characters seeking imaginative worlds and new civilisations.” It will be “distributed concurrently for television and multiple platforms around the world by CBS International Studios.”
Although Kurtzman produced and co-wrote the two recent Star Trek films, the new show will not be related to any of the reboot films. The last time we saw Star Trek on the small screen was with Star Trek: Enterprise, which ran on UPN from 2001 until 2005.
