Oscars 2011 Results

Last night (Sunday the 27th February) saw Hollywood’s finest gathering together for the biggest annual event in the filmic calendar; the Oscars (or the 83rd Academy Awards to give last night’s ceremony his full title); which sought to honour the best films of 2010; and presented British movie The King’s Speech as the clear winner.

Walking away with not only four Oscars, but four of the most coveted awards, The King’s Speech earned recognition for Best Film, Best Actor (awarded to Colin firth), Best Screenplay (for David Seidler), and Best Director (for Tom Hooper); easily beating its closest competition (The Social Network) to the most sought after awards of the night.

The Social Network didn’t walk away empty handed however; picking up the award for best Adapted Screenplay (for Aaron Sorkin), Best Score (for Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross), and Best Editing; meaning that like those movies nominated in the lesser categories, there were no real surprises in the major categories, or the ceremony as a whole.

Natalie Portman picked up the Best Actress statuette for her turn in Black Swan, while Christian Bale and Melissa Leo won the Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress statues for their respective roles in The Fighter, and Toy Story 3 predictably won the Oscar for Best Animated feature, whilst Inception walked away with a number of technical awards; including those for Visual Effects, Sound Mixing, and Sound Editing.
