Easily the best comedy of 2009, The Hangover; a film about four friends that have an extremely wild night in Las Vegas, to celebrate one of the lads’ impending wedding, only to wake up and find that they’ve trashed their hotel room, found a baby, lost the groom, and have no memory of the evening; was extremely well received, and currently has a sequel well into the production phase.
The sequel will be reuniting the principal cast; Bradley Cooper (The A-Team), Zach Galifianakis (Due Date), Ed Helms (The Office), and Justin Bartha (National Treasure); but moving the action from Vegas to Bangkok; where the lads will undoubtedly have another extremely wild night that will get them into all sorts of trouble.
Plot details for The Hangover: Part II are pretty spare at this time, although we know that the boys will end up meeting a “larger-than-life” Bangkok tattoo artist; who becomes integral to the story, and was to be played by Mel Gibson (Edge of Darkness), until members of the cast and crew objected, and he was replaced by Liam Neeson (Chloe); and that Ken Jeong’s (Furry Vengeance) Mr Chow will also be returning.
Heather Graham (the Boogie Nights star who played a Vegas stripper in the last movie) will not be reprising her role in the new film, but in a rather surprising turn of events, ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson has stated that he will be making another cameo in the picture that we now know will also feature Juliette Lewis (Whip It), and Paul Giamatti.
Giamatti will be joining the rest of the cast in Thailand in a few weeks; to play an unknown part; but should prove more than able to handle whatever returning director Todd Phillips (Due Date) throws his way; as the Sideways star has conquered a number of very different roles, that include appearances in films ranging from Cinderella Man, and Saving Private Ryan, to Fred Claus, and Donnie Brasco.
Warner’s keeping the plot details locked up pretty tightly, and as such it’s unlikely that too much information will be released before a teaser trailer eventually lands, and the film gets its theatrical release on May 26th next year.
