He’s been heavily involved with bringing the first, Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park) directed Tintin movie (which is currently doing the rounds in cinemas nationwide) to the big screen, but now we have official confirmation that Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson will direct Tintin 2.
Tintin was always planned as a trilogy of films, with Spielberg and Jackson having agreed sometime ago to direct the first two films between them, and as Steven has already confirmed that Sony and Paramount were helpful in allowing them “the financial wherewithal to develop a script, do all the visual storyboards” and basically get a second Tintin movie ready, as soon as schedules free up “we can launch pretty quickly on a second movie. The script is already written.”
Written by Anthony Horowitz (Alex Rider: Stormbreaker) script will blend another two classic Tintin tales (Prisoners of the Sun, and The Seven Crystal Balls), but although the script is ready it’ll still be a while before more detailed work can be done on the sequel; as Jackson is still busy filming both entires in his upcoming lord of the Rings prequel film The Hobbit.
