We heard rumblings of a Pirates of the Caribbean 5 after the release of On Stranger Tides (the fourth movie in Disney’s hugely successful Pirates franchise), yet while things have been suspiciously quiet on the piratical front of late that’s not the case anymore; as Disney have now given an official release date for Pirates of the Caribbean 5.
Officially due to be called Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (as Disney’s new update informs us), the next film in the franchise will once again be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, but will inject some new talent into the series with directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg (the pair behind the impressive nautical movie Kon-Tiki) both sharing the directorial duties previous wielded by Gore Verbinski.
While On Stranger Tides didn’t exactly astound movie critics it still pulled in over $1 billion at the Box Office, and so it stands to reason Disney would want to try and capitalise on the money-making potential of Jack Sparrow and co. once again, by bringing Johnny Depp back for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales on July 7th 2017 (two years after its originally scheduled 2015 release date, six years since the release of On Stranger Tides, and a full fourteen years since The Curse of the Black Pearl).
