After recently reporting that M. Night Shyamalan; the visionary director behind the odd supernatural hits The Sixth Sense, Signs, and Unbreakable, among others; is currently trying to find a major Hollywood studio to back his latest original feature, amidst an intricately woven web of secrecy, an extremely brief summary of the film has been leaked.
We already knew that the script (which M. Night was so protective about, that he wouldn’t even allow the top studios bods to read, unless they were supervised by one of his personal assistants, who then rushed it back to him) was causing quite a stir, and has attracted some big name talent in the form of Bruce Willis (who previously worked on two of M. Night’s best movies; The Sixth Sense, and Unbreakable), Gwyneth Paltrow (who plays Pepper Potts in the Iron Man series of films), and Bradley Cooper (The Hangover), despite the fact that the last few original M. Night Shyamalan scripts (The Village, Lady in the Water, The Happening), have far from lived up to his earlier work.
The latest bit of information that has emerged (but hasn’t been confirmed yet in any official capacity), suggests that Bradley Cooper would be playing a father who’s on a desperate search for his missing child, and ends up tapping into some sort of supernatural powers that he will use to aid him his search.
As of yet there’s no word on what role Bruce Willis and Gwyneth Paltrow would fill, in the untitled film that Shyamalan has written, and intends on directing, but it does appear that he should lock in a deal to produce it fairly soon; as Universal have been reported to have shown the most interest in the project, but are not the only ones after it; as there’s been interest from not only big players, but non-studio backers as well.
We’ll have more news about the film as and when it becomes available, but for anyone who’s itching to see some of M. Night Shyamalan’s latest work a little sooner than his mysterious and untitled project can be produced, The Last Airbender (which he has directed) will be opening on August the 13th.
