Coming via the official Predator Facebook page, we now have not only an official title, but the first official teaser image for Shane Black’s upcoming Predator movie; The Predator.
Suggesting we’ll see a singular hunter as opposed to the trio we were given in Predators, there’s a hope among fans that we’ll be returning to the spirit of the original film; a hope made much more optimistic as The Predator is resting in the hands of Shane Black, not only an actor in the original Predator film (on hand mainly to tweak the script should the need have arisen), but the man who’s scripted some true action classics (see Lethal Weapon), and even went on to direct Iron Man 3.
Black has previously said The Predator will be “an inventive sequel” rather than a reboot or remake. “Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine? I like the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button.”
While no cast members have been announced, we’ve no official release date, and not even a start date as yet, we’d expect much more information (or a few nuggets coupled with copious rumours at least) to emerge during the press tour for Black’s upcoming action/comedy The Nice Guys; which stars Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, and is due to be released on May 20th in the UK (watch the official trailer here).
