After earning an Oscar co-writing and starring in Good Will Hunting for Gus Van Sant, it’s no surprise that Matt Damon should want to team up with the writer/director again, and will soon be seen in a new movie the pair have written together, and Van Sant is directing; the upcoming Promised Land, which recently had its first trailer released online (now available to view below).
Damon headlines the cast as a man who works for a large energy company, and has to convince a small farming town to sell the rights to their lands for fracking; a process which involves drilling deep into rock and releasing natural gas for energy, and often means a healthy income for the farmers, but can also lead to utterly destroyed farmlands.
With the town eventually raising up to fight against the will of the big energy corporation, Promised Land co-stars Tim Guinee (Iron Man), John Krasinski (It’s Complicated), Frances McDormand (Transformers: Dark of the Moon), Rosemarie DeWitt (The Watch), Titus Welliver (The Town), and Terry Kinney (Oz), and is due to be released on January 11th in the US, but is still lacking an official UK release date.
