While Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (the upcoming superhero movie from Man of Steel director Zack Snyder) was also shooting for a PG-13 theatrical release, the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America – the USA’s censor board) recently announced a home entertainment version of the film, called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition, has just been rated R.
Earning its R-rating for “sequences of violence” which were understandably cut for the theatrical release, it sounds as if the Blu-ray release of the film could be much darker than the theatrical cut (particularly as Snyder has said he was hugely influenced by Frank Miller’s comic The Dark Knight Returns), and likely clock in with around a three-hour runtime as the theatrical version is already 2 hours 31 minutes long.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will pit Ben Affleck’s Batman (the first time we’ll see said version of the character) against Henry Cavill’s Superman (reprising his Man of Steel role), and also feature appearances from Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Aquaman when it’s released on March 25th.
