Inspired by one of the worst scandals to rock the LAPD since the Rodney King incident (the Rampart scandal; which has inspired countless movies and TV shows, including Training Day and The Shield), the upcoming film Rampart stars Woody Harrelson as one of the dirtiest cops ever seen on screen, and has just had its first trailer released online (now available to view below).
Starring as fictional LAPD officer Dave Brown (who’s likely based on Rafael Perez; a cop linked to beatings, bribery, coercion, bank robbery, evidence tampering, drug dealing, and more) Harrelson will soon be seen as a Vietnam veteran who clearly plays by his own rules, but has his methods called into question when he’s caught on camera beating a suspect, and subsequently sees both his personal and professional life spinning out of control.
Rampart’s marketing is heavily focussing on Harrelson’s superb acting ability (which has landed him 2 Oscar nominations to date; for The People Vs. Larry Flynt, and The Messenger), and the fact that his performance in the film is likely to see him nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor once again.
Oren Moverman (The Messenger) has directed the movie, which co-stars Ice Cube (Boyz N Tha Hood), Sigourney Weaver (Alien), Steve Buscemi (Boadwalk Empire), Ben Foster (The Mechanic), Robin Wright (Forrest Gump), and Anne Heche (Hung), and is due to be released on November 23rd in the US (on limited released in New York and LA, before opening nationwide on January 27th), before making its UK release date on February 10th .
