Jessica Chastain (The Help) was up for the part of a beautiful and brilliant scientist in the upcoming superhero threequel, Iron Man 3, but now that she’s officially confirmed she’s too busy to appear in Tony Stark’s third stand-alone movie, the part is once again up for grabs, and could soon be snapped up by The Town‘s Rebecca Hall (who’s now officially entered negotiations).
While the majority of the character’s involvement with the story is being kept secret, it appears as though the scientist; who, given the Tony Stark/Pepper Potts relationship, will be more of a supporting character than a female lead; will be involved with developing a new kind of nanotechnology that will not only improve the Iron Man suit, but inevitably end up in the hands of some unsavoury terrorists.
Sir Ben Kingsley (Shutter Island) will be joining returning stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Don Cheadle, as a key, nano-tech exploiting villain, alongside fellow newcomer Guy Pearce (Memento), when the Shane Black (Lethal Weapon) directed Iron Man 3 begins filming this month, before it’s released on May 3rd 2013 in both the US and UK.
