Release Date for Tarantino’s Django Unchained

Since even before the official announcement confirmed that the next film from writer/director Quentin Tarantino (the man behind Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Inglorious Basterds) would be a western inspired by the classic Spaghetti Western movies, we’ve had rumours concerning the potential storyline, and cast, but today comes not with another casting rumours, but a finalized US release date for the film.

Tarantino’s new film; which is titled Django Unchained; will be set in the late 1800’s, and follow a freed slave (named Django) who teams up with a German bounty hunter, and cross paths with a nefarious ranch owner named Candie, in the quest to free his wife from slavery.

While no-one has officially signed on as yet, an offer has been put out to Will Smith (Men in Black) for the part of Django, though it’s now unlikely he will sign on, and more likely that we’ll see an actor such as Jamie Foxx (The Kingdom), or Idris Elba (The Wire); both of whom have been rumoured to be up for the part; taking on the lead role, alongside the almost inevitable casting of Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds) as the German Bounty Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) as Candie’s number-one slave, and Leonardo DiCaprio (Inception) as the villain; Candie.

Production is slated to begin this coming fall (and we expect plenty of rumours and eventually some official casting announcements to surface before then), and while there’s no confirmed UK release date at this point, it will likely be only a day away from the US release date; which according to Box Office Mojo, is now scheduled for Christmas Day 2012.
