Set in a small Ohio town in 1979, JJ Abrams (Lost) upcoming sci-fi mystery Super 8 is a homage to the classic Steven Speilberg films (such as E.T., The Goonies, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, etc.), and in order to further pay homage to Speilberg (who’s worked as a producer on Super 8), the film has just been awarded a retro style poster (now available to view below) in the vein of Drew Struzan’s work.
Drew is well known for having crafted some of the most iconic posters in film history; such as the Star Wars posters, the Indiana Jones posters, the Back to the Future posters, and Gremlins, not to mention E.T., The Goonies and a host of other works often notable for their hand drawn appearance; and this newly released poster seems to perfectly capture not only the spirit of his work, but the vibe of Super 8, despite the fact that Movies.com are reporting it’s an unofficial, fan-made effort (yet nobody can deny it’s a brilliant effort).
Following a small group of children who witness a horrific train crash, and begin to investigate the strange goings on in their town afterwards; as their town is quarantined due to the escape of some mysterious, and highly dangerous military cargo; Super 8 is out now in the US, but won’t be making it UK release date until August 5th.
