Rise of the Planet of the Apes SFX Video

While 20th Century Fox have announced a special live event revealing how the apes in their upcoming Planet of the Apes prequel movie; Rise of the Planet of the Apes (which has had a ‘Planet’ added to its original title; Rise of the Apes); will be brought to life, they have also release a short (four seconds short) video showing what their main ape; Caesar; will look like.

The brief video clip can be seen below, and doesn’t really show anything other than the quality of the CG effects that will bring the apes to life; courtesy of the award-winning WETA Digital team (best known for their work on pictures such as The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Avatar, and Peter Jackson’s King Kong), who will be hosting tomorrow’s live event and showcasing just how they have used actors’ motion capture, to create the film’s primates.

Famed for his motion capture work in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (as Gollum), Andy Serkis will be portraying the intelligent and ruthless Caesar; one of many intelligent apes manufactured in a present-day genetic experiment, which eventually leads to the onset of a war for supremacy.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes also stars James Franco (127 Hours); as a young scientist who becomes a key player in the war; John Lithgow (Dexter); as Franco’s dementia stricken father; Brian Cox (Troy); as an unscrupulous ape sanctuary owner, and Franco and Lithgow’s boss; Frieda Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire); as a primatologist; and Harry Potter’s Tom Felton; as Cox’s son.

The Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) directed prequel is due to be released on August 5th, and anyone interested in watching the live CG showcase can head over to the film’s official website, tomorrow at 10:30pm UK time, or 2:30pm Pacific time if your in the US.
