While many fans may have been a bit disappointed when the villain’s role in the upcoming RoboCop remake didn’t fall into the hands of former House star Hugh Laurie, director Jose Padhila (Elite Squad) has already lined up his replacement, and hired the brilliant, cult-favourite, Michael Keaton.
Best known for his roles in Batman, Beetlejuice, and more recently sideline roles such as the police captain in The Other Guys, Keaton will be joining the movie (a remake of the Paul Verhoeven classic) as the head of Omni Corp, and likely going up against Joel Kinnaman; The Killing star who’s stepped up to take on the role of Alex Murphy, and, after his untimely death, the cyborg police officer we all know and love as RoboCop.
Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) is on board to play the scientist responsible for RoboCop, whilst Abbie Cornish (Limitless) is due to star as Murphy’s widow, Michael Kenneth Williams (Boardwalk Empire) will appear as his partner, and both Jackie Earle Haley (Shutter Island) and Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers) will also star as the military man who trains RoboCop, and a charismatic news presenter respectively, when filming begins (imminently) in Toronto, ahead of an August 9th 2013 release date in both the US and UK.
