Ron Howard is a man that isn’t afraid to tackle any topic he so chooses, so the news that he’s going to direct Disney’s live-action adaptation of Pinocchio isn’t as shocking as it initially seems.
Howard will be telling the tale of the little wooden puppet who just wants to be like everybody else. The project has been in the works for quite a while now, with Robert Downey Jr. being attached for what seems like forever. But Tracking Board are now saying that, “things are expected to move quickly.”
Howard isn’t the first director Disney have been eyeing up: they originally wanted Tim Burton, although Ben Stiller and even Paul Thomas Anderson have been rumoured. The script has had a number of writers work on it as well: Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass), Michael Mitnick (The Giver) and Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) have all had a go, but there’s still no word on who the official writers are.
According to Tracking Board, the movie will follow Geppetto as he sets out to find Pinocchio after he goes missing.
