A true action classic, the Patrick Swayze/Sam Elliott beat-em-up, Road House will soon be getting a remake, and has just hired its writer/director; none other than Nick Cassavetes.
Known around these parts as brother Lyle from Blind Fury (but also the director of The Notebook, Alpha Dog, and my Sister’s Keeper), Cassavetes will be retooling the original movie to fit Swayze’s role to UFC champion-turned actress Ronda Rousey (seen in both Entourage, and Furious 7 this year); seeing her star as the bouncer hired to stop the titular bar being trashed on a nightly basis by its burly patrons.
While it’s not clear exactly when the new Road House will arrive, who will replace Sam Elliott (though he’d be just as well set to tackle the same role now), or exactly what tone the new film will attempt to take, Ronda has already received the blessing of Swayze’s widow, is clearly a great choice for the role, and will likely be stepping in front of the camera next year; as MGM seems to be fast tracking their Road House remake.
