Every once in a while a film comes along that nobody was expecting, or could have even hoped to predict, yet unlike Hobo With A Shotgun, the latest; “they’re actually making that?”; movie concerns a serial killer unlike any other; in that he/it is, in fact, a discarded old tyre.
Abandoned in the desert for some unknown reason, Robert the tyre miraculously comes to life, and begins happily rolling his ‘life’ away, hunting birds and such, until he gets just a little too miffed by some local people, and unleashes his deadly psychokinetic powers on them; causing their heads to explode.
Rubber (the film from electro-musician Quentin Dupieux) then concerns itself with having the local police force attempt to stop the killing spree of an extremely dangerous rubber tyre who seems to have a taste for blood, a Carrie like anger problem, and a real eye for the ladies.
A film that’s been referred to as “Bat Shit & Wonderful” by LA Weekly; Rubber is due to be released on April 1st in the United States, and has DVD release date of April 11th in the UK.
