Ryan Coogler, director of hit 2013 indie Fruitvale Station and the upcoming sports drama Creed, is wanted by Marvel to direct the forthcoming Black Panther movie.
Creed is currently undergoing post-production work, but Coogler may already have his next project lined up for him if Marvel ends up approaching him for the job. Selma director Ava DuVernay declined the offer over creative differences, while Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray was also rumoured to be in the running, but that now seems unlikely with the announcement that he will be directing Fast & Furious 8.
There is plenty of time for speculation, though, as Black Panther won’t be released until 2018. Chadwick Boseman (Get On Up) has already signed on for the titular role, while it’s also rumoured that Andy Serkis (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) will play physicist Ulysses Klaw.
