Despite reports that began to circulate over the past couple of days (and were covered by us here), a representative for Ryan Gosling has now confirmed that the star will not be appearing as the titular masked Lone Ranger in Disney’s planned adaptation of the popular radio show/TV series.
Talks were recently being held for Gosling to take on the possibly career defining role, however reports that emerged covering the talks and Ryan’s possible involvement with the project have since been defined as “premature” as his schedule wasn’t completely finalized, and appears to clash the movie; meaning he has had to pass on the role.
However, with the release date not scheduled until 2014, Disney still has plenty of time to track down a stetson-wearing hero to appear alongside Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp (who will be appearing as The Lone Ranger’s Native American sidekick Tonto), in the Gore Verbinski (Pirates 1-3) directed movie before the eventual start date.
