Everyone knew he’d be back, hell Deadpool himself told you as much in his Ferris Bueller-inspired post-credits scene, but now it’s official – 20th Century Fox has commissioned a Deadpool sequel, and announced writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, director Tim Miller, and franchise frontman/Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds will all be returning for Deadpool 2.
The announcement was made at CinemaCon, where Fox co-chairman Stacey Snider broke the news, and while we didn’t learn whether or not Fox would be drastically increasing the budget this time round (with such a huge money-spinner it’d make sense, yet the relatively modest budget may have added to the charm of the first film), or any plot/character details (we didn’t even learn if Kiera Knightley has signed her deal to play Cable yet), it’s nevertheless a hugely exciting and positive announcement.
