While many critics felt that Sony’s 2010 spy thriller Salt promised a good deal more than it delivered, and promptly greeted it with somewhat mixed reviews, audiences seemed to disagree, and enjoyed the film in large enough numbers ($300 million to be more precise) to prompt Sony into commissioning a sequel, which is currently being written by Kurt Wimmer (Law Abiding Citizen).
While the draw of the first movie largely revolved around discovering whether or not the main character; Evelyn Salt; really was a Russian sleeper agent working in the CIA, or simply the victim of an elaborate stitch-up, Sony left a window wide open for a sequel; in which Salt will hunt down the members of the sleeper group with which she was accused of being involved.
It also stands a good chance of entering production, as not only does $300 million scream franchise to a studio such as Sony, but Angelina Jolie (Tomb Raider); who played Evelyn Salt in the first movie; is reportedly interested in reprising her role as the ass-kicking heroine, should the final script be to her liking.
