Despite dropping out of the top ten Box Office lists in the U.S. in only its second week, and not faring too much better internationally, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World has received a pretty high number of positive reviews, and shot to the head of the top-selling Blu-ray list on Amazon.com the first day it became available to order in the U.S., and is hoping to replicate that success when it gets its U.K. release on the 27th of this month.
While it may not have fared very well at the Box Office, Scott Pilgrim was certainly well liked by those who did see it; with fans that include Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction), Jason Reitman (Thank You For Smoking), and Kevin Smith (Red State), who has stated that he thinks “that movie is great.”
However, it may be “great” according to Smith, and doing well on Blu-ray and DVD in the U.S., but appears to mirror Marmite; in that viewers seem to either love it, and keep coming back for repeated viewings, or hate its quirky nature, and unusual sensibilities, and stay well away; and it’s definitely a film for the younger generation, as there’s few film fans over the age of 30 that will relish getting to watch Michael Cera (the consistently awkward Superbad star) battle the seven evil ex-boyfriends of his new crush, just so he can go out with her.
Scheduled for a U.K. release on December 27th (the day after Boxing Day) Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is now available for pre-order (or already available in the U.S.), and if you’re a fan of comics, quirky comedies, and Michael Cera, you’re bound to love it; as it’s a film which nobody can deny, is original, inventive, and pretty entertaining.
