Over the past couple of days the media machine for Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes sequel; Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows; has really got moving, and given us not only the first character posters, and some official plot details, but now we also have the first official trailer (available to view below).
Drawing elements from Arthur Conan Doyle’s short story ‘The Final Problem’ Sherlock’s second outing will see Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role as the master detective, along with his sidekick Watson (once again portrayed by Jude Law), and have the par join forces with a mysterious fortune teller named Sim (Noomi Rapace, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) as they attempt to uncover the conspiracy behind the plotting of Holmes’ arch nemesis; Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris, Mad Men); which judging by Holmes’ wall art, stretches to considerable lengths.
In a case that will see the duo traveling from England to France, Germany, and Switzerland, A Game of Shadows will also star Stephen Fry (Bones); as Holmes’ brother Mycroft; and attempt to recapture the action and humour achieved by the first film (as evident by the reused joke at the close of the trailer), when it’s released on December 16th, in both the UK and US.
