Currently shooting Broken City, and soon to be seen in the upcoming musical Rock of Ages, Catherine Zeta-Jones has just signed on to appear in the latest thriller from director Steven Soderbergh (Contagion), the pharmaceutical-based movie Side Effects.
Due to play a doctor in the “pot-boiler” film, Zeta-Jones will be joining Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes) and Channing Tatum (Haywire) in Side Effects; which will star Blake Lively (The Town) as a depressive, anxiety-ridden, pill-popping woman stressing over the impending release of her jailbird husband (Tatum), while she continues an affair with her doctor (Law).
Originally scheduled to be directed by Contagion writer Scott Z Burns (who’s simply too busy churning out high-profile scripts to step behind the camera), Side Effects has suffered a bit of a setback of late; losing the majority of its funding; though give the involvement of both Soderbergh and Scott Z Burns, as well as the bankable cast, it’s likely that this is one film that shouldn’t have too much trouble drumming up a prospective investor or two.
