It’s finally official, after plenty of back and forth (much of which turned out to be pure rumour), we know that writer/director/star Sylvester Stallone will only be returning for The Expendables sequel as an actor, and co-writer, and has officially hired Simon West to direct the highly anticipated sequel.
The hiring of West will likely come as a delight to many fans of the first film; who enjoyed not only its cast list (which was rammed full of high profile action stars) but style (harking back to the classic 80s action movies), and should appreciate West’s ability in the genre; thanks to him holding action movies such as The Mechanic (which starred Expendables star Jason Statham) and Con Air under his belt.
The majority of the original cast are expected to return for the sequel; including not only Sly and Statham, but Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke, and most likely Bruce Willis (who has been rumoured to be up for the part of the main villain for quite sometime); and although no plot details have been released, there’s sure to be a flurry of further casting rumours (which already have everyone from Steven Seagal, and Jean-Claude Van Damme, to Dwayne Johnson, appearing), before filming starts this summer.
