In a surprising, and rather strange, move Guy Ritchie’s classic British gangster flick Snatch will be getting an American TV adaptation.
Yes. You read that right. Crackle (Sony’s online TV service) will be adapting a small-screen version of the Jason Statham-starring property, though the new version will simply be set in the world created by Ritchie’s film, and focus on new characters rather than attempting to bring back the film’s original cast.
Set to follow a group of young hustlers who happen upon a lorry-load of stolen gold and quickly become embroiled in the events of the criminal underworld, the series will take inspiration from a real-life London gold bullion heist, and will begin with a 10 episode run presumably set to air next year (no date has been given at this time).
It’s also unclear how it will make it to the UK (as Crackle shut down here a few years ago), or even if we’ll want it; because without Ritchie’s involvement (his name isn’t even mentioned in the original post), and the original cast members absent as well (aside from the possibility of the odd cameo), can a successful TV version of Snatch even be made to capture the right tone?
