Sons of Anarchy’s Third Season Finishes Strong

The third series of FX’s Sons of Anarchy had its final episode air in the U.S. on Tuesday night, and closed with impressive ratings figures that were not only strong for the ever-popular show, and the second highest rated episode of the season, but was once again the most-watched basic cable show in its key demographic of 18-49-year-olds.

Focussing on a Californian biker gang known as the Sons of Anarchy, S.O.A. traces the fictional gangs illegal activities, dealings with the law, and inter-personal relationships, the show quickly gained a large number of extremely loyal fans, and became FX’s flagship show; proving that the network has a talent for choosing different, and promising dramatic shows, as they previously aired The Shield, and have commissioned other original series such as Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, Damages, and Justified.

Season three saw the members of the gang dealing with the huge fallout from the events of season 2 (which was reviewed by us here), dealing heavily with the I.R.A., and even spending some time in Ireland, trying to recover something very dear to them, and get revenge for some unforgivable indiscretions.

Yet while the series has finished airing in the U.S., a start date for the U.K. showing of season three hasn’t yet been confirmed, and so far there have been no announcements for Blu-ray/DVD release dates on either side of the Atlantic; although American fans can pre-order the show on Blu-ray or DVD from Amazon.com, to be delivered “when it arrives,” and look forward to a fourth series, which was confirmed by FX a weeks weeks ago.
