Coming from the mind of Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter, Southpaw is the tale of a down-and-out boxer who watches his life unravel both inside and outside the ring, before throwing all of his efforts into getting both his career and home life back on track, and you can now see the Southpaw official trailer below, courtesy of Eminem (the rapper who was originally set to star, but is now simply providing new music for the film).
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal (in radically different physical from to the sickly Lou Bloom he portrayed in Nightcrawler) as boxer Billy Hope, Southpaw sees the champion losing his wife (Rachel McAdams, The Time Traveler’s Wife), and having his daughter taken away before he begins a radical attempt to redeem himself, and not only fix his home life, but reclaim the title the lost along the way.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua (the Training Day director who recently gave us The Equalizer), and most recently scripted by The Equalizer‘s Richard Wenk, Southpaw co-stars Forest Whitaker (Out Of The Furnace), 50 Cent (Gun), and Naomie Harris (Skyfall), and is due to be released on July 31st in both the US and UK.
