After a hugely successful TV show, theme park rides, and a rather successful theatrical outing, Nickelodeon’s beloved childrens cartoon SpongeBob Squarents will soon be hitting the big screen again in the second SpongBob movie, and you can now see the official trailer for SpongeBob SquarePants: Sponge Out Of Water below.
After a pirate (played by Puss In Boots/Expendables 3 star Antonio Banderas) steals a hugely important book from SpongeBob’s world under the sea, SpongeBob, Patrick, and pals pursue him into the human world, gain superpowers, and eat a lot of ice cream in an attempt to get it back; in the family film which, judging by the trailer, looks a lot like The Smurfs.
Stephen Hillenburg (SpongeBob creator, and director of the first SpongeBob film) has written the new movie, as well as picking up the duties of executive producer, yet handed the directing reigns over to Paul Tibbitt (SpongeBob’s TV producer and director), who’s handling a cast which will include not only Antonio Banderas, but Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Thomas F. Wilson (Back to the Future), and Clancy Brown (Highlander) when it’s released on February 6th in the US, before making its official UK release date (in 3D) on March 20th 2015.
