Following on from the explosive first two films, series creator, director (of the first film), writer, and star Sylvester Stallone has assembled another muscle-bound crew of nostalgic heroes and testosterone-fuelled newcomers to grab some guns, some C4, a bag full of puns, and shoot-up another third world country in order to bring you The Expendables 3.
Reuniting with former Expendables stars Jet Li, Terry Crews, Jason Statham, Randy Couture, and Dolph Lundgren, as well as giving Arnold Schwarzenegger an even larger part than in the first two movies, Stallone’s huddle of hard-men are joined by Wesley Snipes (Blade), Antonio Banderas (Assassins), Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones), Kellan Lutz (The Legend of Hercules), Kelsey Grammer (Frasier), Ronda Rousey (of MMA fame), and boxing champion Victor Ortiz, for an outing which proves to be not only The Expendables’ most explosive yet, but also their most dangerous.
After learning his former best-friend, Expendables co-founder, and a man he thought he’d killed years ago, has become one of the most ruthless illegal arms dealers in the world, Barney Ross (Stallone) tackles the problem head-on, only to find his nemesis Stonebanks (Mel Gibson, How I Spent My Summer Vacation) then makes it his mission to exterminate The Expendables; forcing Barney to hire a new band of younger, faster, tech-savvy fighters who’ll work alongside the old-school heroes in an attempt to stop Stonebanks for good, and end The Expendables most personal battle ever.
Released on Blu-ray and DVD on Monday December 8th, the UK Blu-ray release features not only the theatrical version of the film, but an Expendables 3 extended edition featuring an additional six minutes of footage deemed too explosive for cinemas (upping the certificate to a 15), as well as a number of deleted scenes, featurettes, an ever-popular gag reel and, not forgetting, one of the greatest casts ever assembled for an action film.
